PROFESSIONAL TEETH WHITENING WITH LUMALITE™

Why Whiten your teeth?

Whether you are self-conscious because you have yellowed teeth from smoking or drinking coffee, or if you just want to look your best, tooth whitening is a sure way to brighten your smile and gain increased confidence in your appearance. Whitening is also known to takes years off your looks. Our professional in office system removes surface stains and penetrates the enamel to bleach deep-set stains that over-the-counter systems cannot reach.

What is Tooth Whitening?

The tooth whitening process eliminates discolouration and stains on the teeth, and can also brighten the natural pigmentation of the teeth. The degree of improvement will depend upon how severely the teeth are stained or discolored as well as the nature of the stains. When teeth are brown or yellow due to coffee, tea, or smoking, stains will generally lighten four to five shades. Teeth that are gray due to natural pigmentation or antibiotics use will lighten two to three shades. Regardless, your teeth will be noticeably brighter after teeth whitening. While there are a number of over-the-counter teeth whitening methods that make various claims, only a dental professional system can deliver dramatic results. The most effective teeth whitening techniques available today are in-office light-based systems.

How is it done?

In-office teeth whitening methods are performed with bleaching gel and a professional light. This is a good method of teeth whitening for sensitive teeth, as the process may be closely monitored. The teeth are carefully isolated from the lips and gums, and then a bleaching gel is applied to them. A light is used in conjunction with the gel to accelerate, activate and amplify the tooth whitening process. In-office applications of gel to the teeth can be augmented at home by professional 'paint-on' whitening products.

The professional teeth whitening process begins with a minor cleaning and removal of any plaque along the gum line. Once this has been accomplished, a peroxide based gel is applied to the teeth. This gel contains a professional strength formula that ensures the laser accomplishes the maximum possible amount of teeth whitening. Next, the Lumalite™ is used to activate the gel. The process usually takes about an 30-60 minutes, and whitens teeth by as many as 10 shades.

Teeth Whitening Side Effects

The gel that is used may cause the teeth to be temporarily sensitive to hot and cold foods, drinks, and even to air. At Illuminesse, the Lumalite™ cool light system decreases that possibility.

Who are suitable candidates?

Most people with healthy teeth are potential candidates. Not everyone, however, can benefit from tooth whitening (it cannot lighten fillings or crowns).
